The Dearest Ham Sandwich in Dublin?

11 euro ham sandwichI dropped into The Octagon Bar in The Clarence Hotel the other evening. It’s a lovely spot for a quiet drink but if you’re feeling a bit peckish you may need to rob a bank before consulting the bar menu.

I may well have found the most expensive ham sandwich in Dublin! Granted, it does ordinarily come with olives on the end of each cocktail stick and a stack of green stuff (which I am reliably informed is called salad) in the centre, but at 11 euro it’s rather steep! At least a bowl of chips, while still double the going rate, is relatively good value at only €5.50.

Perhaps Bono is planning to banish third world debt by charging outrageous prices for pub grub in Dublin? :)

[...] I actually forgot to e-mail sugarqube to cancel my subscription before the free trial ended. So, the annual registration fee of $11.95 was charged to my credit card. I’ve wasted more money on a ham sandwich, so I wasn’t overly concerned. I sent a few more ecards through the year, but most of the cards on the site are not my cup of tea. So, I decided to cancel my membership. That’s when the fun started. [...]

I blogged about their coffee last year. (http://www.bluire.com/index.php?p=334) so it doesn’t surprise me that their ham sandwiches are so expensive.

Maybe Bono is sending the profits from the clarence to help clear third world debt.
Seriously, how can he preach to us about supporting third world countries when he himself is involved in extortion! :-) Frank McNally had an interesting article about him in the weekend’s Irish Times. How U2 are now tax exiles since the government introduced the cap on earnings….

Double standards. I’m filthy rich. But help me to get richer please.
