Stumbling

The StumbleUpon toolbar is a great idea. If you have it installed, you can visit a random website at the click of a button whenever you feel like it. The idea is that you will stumble upon sites which you would otherwise never have found.

StumbleUpon does not show you any old rubbish. Sites are only included in the tool when suggested by an existing user (thanks to Barry who suggested mine!). What’s more, it uses collaborative opinions so that you are only shown sites that like minded users enjoyed. As you surf around you can give sites a thumbs up or thumbs down, so everyone’s voice is heard in the StumbleUpon democracy.

It’s a quick free download available for several browsers including IE and Firefox. You just choose a username, and the types of sites that interest you, and away you go. This is fantastic fun if you’re at a loose end but be warned that it is potentially the biggest time waster around!

I finally got around to downloading it tonight. In the space of a few minutes, I had discovered such varied delights as a site which tells you something special about each number, a fabulous panoramic view of Paris by night, disposable e-mail accounts, an ingenious way to avoid reistering for many websites and a cool online website colour scheme generator. Surfing will never be the same again. I’m hooked :)
