scaredy cat

a recent shoe shopping expedition to london meant i had to face an arch enemy - the escalator!

with 410 of the monsters lurking in the london underground, it ain’t much fun for me. and when the tube site states that “a surprising number of accidents happen on the escalators”, it doesn’t exactly reassure me!

the sprite advert where the boy’s baggy clothes get sucked into the escalator was ok because that’s not my fear. i’m just petrified of getting on the escalator, especially when going down. i just think that my big foot will land halfway between 2 steps and i’ll fall all the way down aaaaggghh!

writing it down does make it sound ridiculous :) it’s not psychologically recognised but it is a symptom of sensory defensiveness. actually, reading about that disorder, it’s lucky that tag wasn’t around when i was ickle! :)
still, if it is possible to be afraid of opinions (allodoxaphobia) and beards (pogonophobia), i figure i can’t be alone?

I fell down one of the escalator’s in Angel station. Lucally I was near the bottom.

I discovered that the reason for the comb bit at the bottom that fits in the steps groves is to ensure that you get deposited nicely.

A touch embarising, but no harm done.

you poor thing! is angel the station with the longest one in it? it’s ironic that the biggest deathtrap is called angel. you’re the first person i have heard of that has actually fallen down one - i’m not sure whther that makes me feel less silly for being afraid or just more afraid! :)

Apparently it used to be called “Angel of Death Station” but some chavs nicked half the sign!
