Lost Lip Balms
Does anyone else lose their lip balm as often as I do? I have lost count of the number of times this has happened. Even though I’m always using it, and therefore it should always be nearby, it just seems to vanish!
This was annoying enough when I just used to use the standard ones (Vaseline, Carmex, Labello etc). However, lately my lust for lip balm has led to more expensive tastes. Without any cream, my lips are constantly dry and peeling so when I find something that works I don’t mind paying a bit extra.
This started with La Roche-Posay’s Ceralip which I found in a small chemist. It cost €7 for a small tube which is not too bad at all if you do not keep losing it! The tube was quite a long shape, so I usually managed to hang onto it. It worked wonders. Alas, that chemist went out of stock and I have not managed to find it elsewhere since.
So I moved on to L’Occitane’s shea butter lip balm stick. L’Occitane have shops in Wicklow Street, Dundrum and Blackrock in Dublin. It just comes in the standard plastic rollup type container, but cost €9! I managed to almost lose that a fair few times too but the distinctive navy colour helped. It feels quite wet but it works fairly well. I’m not too keen on those stick type ones though as they can get a bit manky after a while.
Then, I got into all sorts of trouble. I discovered Elemis skincare (thanks for bankrupting me QVC!). As part of an outrageous bulk order, I added their Lip Rescue in since it was only €18. €18 for a lip balm - I need locking up! This was quite different to other lip treatments I had tried. It feels like a gritty After Eight which may sound a bit strange but I really liked it. Until last Wednesday when I lost it.
I am going to try and resist indulging again, at least until my L’Occitane one is used up. But with my lifelong habit of losing lip balms, I should probably stick to the cheaper ones, unless they start making the dearer ones into lip balm key rings like these ones. Now there’s a good idea! In the meantime, if anyone has any lip remedies they swear by, let me know - the cheaper, creamier, clunkier and more colourful the better!

Kiehls make the best lib balm I have ever used. The bog standard #1 lib balm in tube or pot.
I get mine in the States, but I think you can purchase it in Blue Eru. Course you’ll pay the price getting it there.
I don’t lose my lip balms but I do have about twenty different ones all over the place, in different bags, coat pockets etc. I forget where I put them all! That’s not losing them, is it?
Also, you can’t beat bog standard vaseline. I find the one with aloe vera superb. Green tins cost less than two euro.

I was using lip balm for a while when I was on Roaccutane and I kept losing them as well. I think it was because they were round containers and they easily slipped off desks and such. Well that’s my theory anyway.

it’s good to know this trivial post has some interest for men anthony
but seriously, hope your skin did not get too dry for you on the roaccutane. i nearly had to go on it myself and was a bit wary. i read on your blog how pleased you were with the results so hopefully any side effects were worth it?
thanks for the tip laura. i’ll have to look out for kiehls. afraid i never had much success with the vaseline though, even though half the world swears by it. but i never tried the green one so i might splash out and give it a try
hope you’re enjoying newly wedded bliss - awww

Yeah it was definitely worth it all right and I didn’t mind the lip balm too much. Felt like a tool sometimes when applying it though.

Five different tins of vaseline….the regular and aloe vera variety…one will always pop in either the bag or coat pocket…works for me

Does using lip balm all the time not just remove your lips ability to moisturise themselves? Making you all slaves to the “evil” lip balm industry for life?
Just a theory

you’re probably right there ed! but i’ve *always* had chapped, flaky, manky lips so i have to try and do something

lol, I love that word manky. I’m sure your lips are not as bad as you make out janine.
*looks around*
I still think there is a conspiracy. :p

maybe Ed is right.
Janine, I hope you’re drinking your required ten litres of water per day.
Otherwise, of course you’re going to need lib balm.

There’s a Sam McCauley’s in the Stephen’s Green Centre? How did I miss that?

It’s on the right-hand side as you go in the main door. Just beside (or one up from) Golden Discs.

We often lose our sticks, too. Thanks for the recommendations, though!
