Irish blogs

With the demise of iLoggers, there has unfortunately been no major list of personal Irish sites and blogs available. For blogs, blogwise and eatonweb are helpful, but we really need somewhere to call our own.

It’s probably old news by now but I only found out a couple days ago about irishblogs.ie, a site that may finally fill the void.

There’s a pretty basic site there at the moment. By its creators’ admission, they are just getting started. There is a list of Irish blogs and the site lists new posts from this subset of the Irish blogosphere. To get listed, you link to them using a button and fill out a form to get updates if you wish.

It seems that an initial select group of blogs have automatically been added without fulfilling the linking requirement. No such luck in my case - not that I’m surprised! I filled out the form, but they seem to be too busy eating Easter eggs to add my site for now :)

Apparently, Roger Galligan is behind the site. He also developed Browse Ireland, so I’m hoping this will be a more successful and useful resource! :) He also has blogs.ie on the go, offering nifty free hosted wordpress blogs, like this example. So he is clearly focusing on contributing to the Irish blog community at the moment and I hope this works out well.

I’m a bit wary of their FAQ though which, although firmly tongue in cheek, states in response to queries about not being listed:

Your site is not listed either because you have not come to our attention or that in our very narrow smug subjective judgement your site is not a good quality Irish blog, yet

Hopefully, I will get listed soon and I will be able to sleep at safe in the knowledge that I finally have a good quality Irish blog :)
