upgrade to 3.11

i upgraded to movable type 3.11 last weekend (the script that powers this blog). the main reason for this was to enable me to moderate comments. alas, although my ickle blog is only starting off the spammers have already started commenting on posts daily and in the older 2.661 version i was using there was no native way to moderate comments.
i know next to nothing about mt, so i thought i’d lose half my blog if i ever tried to upgrade. however, it all went quite smoothly and 3.11 seems to be mega rich in features so i’m glad i did. i haven’t figured most of these out yet of course :) for example, i only just realised that nested categories are now possible which helps me a lot since most of my waffle is theoretically web dev related!
however, ecstatic as i was when my moderating of comments was set up with the click of a button, i had not realised that there are no default templates to use with this feature. the end result being that anyone who made a comment this week was confronted with an error page! only realised this when i wondered why everyone had left the same comment more than once - d’oh! :) ok, you just have to fill in some text to go into Manage > Templates and enter some text to use for the pending comments template and the error goes away but why is there no default template for those of us too new or lazy!

    Yes indeed. Grrr.

They’ve tried to hijack mine too. All it takes is for the Google bots to come around, apparently - it only took three weeks.
