sleep for a while and speak no words

was at the olympia last night to see the manic street preachers gig so my ears are pretty bad today! no complaints though as it was excellent and certainly far more memorable than their last trip to dublin at the point 2 years ago.

they even played australia this time - my favourite song ever!!! i nearly jumped out of my front row seat :) the tracks from their new album lifeblood sounded great, especially to repel ghosts and the forthcoming single empty souls (which you got a limited edition slip case for at the door).

of course i never tire of hearing old favourites like a design for life, which closed the show, and they played plenty of holy bible stuff which i hope kept the hardcore happy too…

all in all a great night and something tells me next week’s entertainment will provide the perfect contrast :)

How did I guess where the “next week’s entertainment” link was going to take me?!?

Indeedy the presence of much Holy Bible material (”Yes” is always great live) was welcome (and did they play anything from “Know your Enemy” - don’t think so). All in all, quite a good gig.

Possibly the funniest part was the crowd waiting for an encore while we made our way down the cloakroom. They’ve never, ever played an encore. Ever!

if you knew where the link was going does that mean you’re coming too? :) did not see you at the manics gig - were you standing? funniest bit for me was nicky’s lovely welsh flag pleated skirt :) and i know they don’t do encores but i’d started leaving and then held on until they put the lights back on because (1) never say never and (2) i wasn’t going to make a complete eejit of myself by falling up the stairs in the dark!

Standing - Nicky was mostly obscured by a big speaker, unfortunately (mostly due to hanging on in the bar until the last possible moment), so we could only catch fleeting glimpses of the rather fetching skirt.

WRT to an encore, if you had a seat, you’d have had somewhere to hang your coat during the gig so there’s no harm in waiting around just in case. We, however, faced a pretty big queue if we waited and so were quite relieved that we knew about their reluctance to encore.

PS: Funny how the “h” looks a lot like “b” in this font.
PPS: I’d really love to go to next week’s concert but I don’t want to consent to being filmed so I can’t!
